Austin, Texas--Legendary musician Willie Nelson is throwing his support behind Congressman Beto O'Rourke.
The campaign announced Wednesday that Nelson will be the headline act on the September 29 show at Auditorium Shores in Austin.
The show will be free and will also include Lukas Nelson, Carrie Rodriguez, Particle Kid, Tameca Jones and Joe Ely.
The 85 year old musician said that he and his wife, Annie had met with O'Rourke and that "Beto embodies what is special about Texas."
Of late, Nelson has stayed pretty far away from making political endorsements, even going as far to tell San Antonio's KSAT during the 2016 Presidential campaign that "it's the funniest damn thing I’ve ever seen in my life."
Nelson went on to say “I’ve seen the circus a few times but this beats any circus I’ve ever seen.“
Cruz and O'Rourke have been fighting over popularity these days with Cruz stomping around the cozy confines of GOP strongholds and O'Rourke dragging the national media outlets and celebs into the campaign. The campaign, which O'Rourke once claimed was about ideals seems to have now turned into a popularity contest--a move that traditionally has not worked for liberal politicians in Texas.
The concert seems to be a response to Ted Cruz's rally at Cowboy's Stadium in which President Trump will be attending.
