Karnes City, Texas--A crude oil storage facility has exploded near the south Texas community of Karnes City about 40 miles south of San Antonio. The blaze, which began Tuesday afternoon has caused what bystanders believe to is a break in the protection levee used to control hold back the oil in the event of an emergency.
The Atascosa County Sheriff's Office said first responders are still battling fire at several tank batteries at the oilfield site which is located in the 11000 block of FM 99 near Karnes City.
Early reports are of no injuries and that the facility has been evacuated.
Commuters are being diverted around the incident location and officials with the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office are asking for the public to stay away from the scene.
This is a developing story.
