Coast Guard Responds To Oil Spill In Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard crews responded to an oil spill from an overloaded barge moored at Flint Hills East Dock near Corpus Christi, Thursday evening.

The Coast Guard estimated that 1,176 gallons of oil was discharged into the ship channel from the barge and a sheen was reported around the barge to be 100 yards by 450 yards.

Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi Incident Management Division, along with Corpus Christi Oil Spill Association, Flint Hills and barge crews, are currently on scene and in the process of clean up efforts. Boom has been placed around the barge, including absorbent pads.
